Finished Socks

I finally finished the socks using the Opal yarn I won from Karen's contest. I did the Lacy Trellis pattern from the Sockamaniac Yahoo group, and I just loved it. It's such an easy pattern and I'm sure I'll be doing it again sometime, probably using a solid colour to see the pattern a little better.

Sorry that the picture is a little blurry, not sure what happened there. They aren't quite identical, but very close. I guess when I started the second sock I wasn't quite in the right spot; however, they are close enough that you can't really complain (or if you do, I just won't listen, LOL).

As I said, I used the Opal Dreamcatcher yarn (I forget what the colour number is offhand and don't have the band near me), and knit them up on 2.75mm dpns. The fit is great, as is the feel, and I can't wait to wear them for longer than it takes to snap a picture.

Here's a closeup of the pattern. I think it looks ok in the stripes, but it would probably stand out better if it were in a solid colour, but nevertheless, I still like it. It was very easy to do, and I recommend it to anyone.
Now I need to get back to my homework - two essays and an outline/bibliography for a term paper are due this week, so I have lots of reading and writing to do. I'm hoping to get quite a bit done so that I can get back to working on the mittens for my nephew (no, I didn't get those finished yet), and the children's socks I had been working on. I also want to cast on for my next pair of socks from MagKnits that I mentioned in the previous post. And, since I don't want to feel guilty when I'm knitting, I'm going to get some school work done first. Happy knitting!

The socks turned out great. That yarn looks much better as a sock rather than yarn spaghetti.

Can't wait to see how your new Magknits socks go -- I want to make a pair, too. I don't have any solid or mostly solid sock yarn for them yet, so I guess that's an excuse to buy some!

Love the socks...and guess what? Today I switched over to the new blogger format! I was pleasantly surprised - - no mishaps. So, the drama is over for now, but I think I would rather have my own domain web address so I can add additional pages to the blog....we'll see.

I love the pattern and colors on your socks. I would love to knit, but I don't think I will find time to learn anytime soon.

I did buy some new socks today, but just the plain solid kind ;-)

Very pretty socks! Yep homework...hate it when it gets in the way of knitting.

I love those socks, the color, the pattern, everything.

Good luck with the essays, hope they go fast so you can get back to the fun stuff.

Oh yummy, these socks are absolutely amazing! What a beautiful colourline - I *so* adore Opal's colours, they have the best sock yarn I think! And the pattern you were using is awesome too, a very interesting one indeed - great work!

Your socks are lovely Shelly. I love the colors. You knit your socks on a lot larger needles than I do. I go with 2 mm all the time even if using a pattern, I just adjust the pattern for the smaller needles. That's one thing I love about knitting, it's so versitile. Your knitting is beautiful.

Yummy socks! I love the colors in that Dreamweaver yarn. I have some Opal Chamilion that I am thinking about using for the Vintage Socks KAL. I, too, knit my socks on a smaller needle. My standard size is 2.25mm. The smallest I use is 2.0mm and the largest is 2.5mm.

Your socks look great!! So glad you liked the yarn. I may have to knit that pattern up soon.

It's a constant battle, isn't it? You want to use cool patterned sock yarn but you don't want to knit a boring sock pattern. Or you have a wonderfully fancy pattern to knit but can't bring yourself to knit it in unexciting solid yarn. We all struggle with this -- at least we're not alone. :)

Because your sock yarn had pretty wide stripes, I think it actually works out better than variegated yarn with shorter color changes. They look really nice -- enjoy them!

Oh I really like how these turned out! I've got that pattern printed out and was a little intimidated by it. Right now I'm working on a stockinette stitch sock which just can't be beat for mindless knitting - LOL!

Shelley your socks look great in the Opal. Hope mine turn out half as nice. I really like the new look to the blog!
